Can´t install on Win2008 Enterprise SP1

Hi...

I got the following Errormessage:

--- There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. ---

Is there any possibility to install NSClient++ on this Win2008-Machine? I tried Version 0.3.5 an the newest Version from here.

Greets from Germany

    AFAIK it should work fine... I have only tried 32 bit version on w2k8 though but try installing from the zip files and let me know how it goes...

      Just installed NSClient++-x64-0.3.5 on a Windows 2008 Server SP1, 64-bit.

      Worked like a charm with the zip file, just extracted the zip, and installed:

      nsclient++ /install nsclient++ /start

      • Message #819

        Lines didn't break as expected... it is of course:

        nsclient++ /install

        nsclient++ /start

      No... Also no install from ZIP-File. Same Error like with MSI-File! Very hard.

      • Message #779

        When do you get the error when you "Install" from the zip file?

        • Message #780

          I got the Error by installing from msi and by installing from ZIP-file! I have no way to install it and make it produktifity!

          • Message #781

            uhmm... how do you install from the zip file?

            ie. what step gives you the error?

            1. unzip to a local direcoty
            2. run: nsclient++ /install
            3. edit nsc.ini
            4. run: net start nsclientpp

                  I would not recomend using the GUI untill you have the regular server working...

                  Anyways, what does:

                  nsclient++ /test

                  tell you?

                      humm, sounds all good.

                      Then I would: download debugview from microsoft (sysinternals) and have that running (capturing global events) when you start the service as you can catch debug from it when the service is starting)

                      Also w32/x64 version and os would be interesting to see.

                        I have downloaded debugview. But there is no output by trying to start NSClient++ on my Windows 2008 Enterprise x64 SP2 System... :-(

                          Under Capure IIRC there is an option for capturing global events or some such which you need to enable...

                            I have made it... But there is no output... I think that NSClient++ is not able to run under Windows 2008 Enterprise x64 SP1. Is there any alternative program for that?

                            • Message #802

                              uhmm... you did "run" it (when you ran NSClient++ /test it is running perfectly).

                              I think the "new" service handling could have issues but you should see that in the log. Also I am a bit doubtful that you don't get anything in the log since it "Logs when it starts" so maybe there is some issue with "launching the service" ?

                              I don't have any x64 w2k8 machine to test on so unless someone can help me with that I cant really diagnose it further.

                              I can do some tests on x64 Vista (which I have) if you let me know which biunary you check?

                                Humm...

                                I just translated the error...

                                the error (in english) means "System Error 5 has occurred.", "Access is Denied error messages can occur".

                                so I am thinking maybe you have a problem with your windows 20008 setup?

                                When you "run" net start nsclientpp you have to do some from an "elevated command prompt" and also make sure that the users have the correct privlages to execute the files and/or access the directories.

                                Also check if you have any policy settings that may interfere.
